Choreography

"Pathedy of Manners"Music by Gershon Kingsley
"Les echecs"Music by Rosenberg/ Larson/ Berwald

"The Anglo-American Ballet's Edinburgh Fringe debut is a notable triumph, the two works especially choreographed by company founder and artistic director Catherine Kingsley being performed with a highly appealing mastery of style and considerable elegance of technique. "Pathedy of Manners" is a dramatic ballet based on a poem by Ellen Kay, set in the 1890's and danced in the classical mode with elements of other styles carefully blended, this attractive ballet is made doubly appealing by the splendid colours and haute couture quality of the costumes. The same commendation must be repeated in respect of the second ballet, "Les Echecs", choreographed by Catherine Kingsley to music by Rosenberg, Larrson and Berwald."

The Stage U.K.

"Catherine Kingsley's "Pathedy of Manners", an altogether remarkable work. It is based on a poem by Ellen Kaye which spans 23 years in a woman's life and is read on-stage. We only saw the final scenes but I certainly wish to see it all. The audience expressed its enthusiasm."

"Alice in Wonderland" Music by Maia Aprahamian - Scenic Design - Nadine Charlsen

'Alice', Colorful Beyond Words

"It's all there: the Cheshire Cat and the crazy Duchess, the tea party with the Mad Hatter, March Hare and Dormouse, the Caterpillar and Father William and his son, the Frog Footman bearing an invitation to the Queen's croquet match, the flamingos, the pack-of-cards, gardeners painting the roses red and the impatient, "off-with-their-heads" Queen of Hearts. Oh, and let's not forget the handsome prince of a White Rabbit.

While there's an amusing dance interlude early on, combining gymnastic tumbling and clownish play dance by Father William and his idiot son, the classical ballet appears mostly in the second half. The sexy flamingo pas de deux, executed in feathery beaked costumes by Christina Ryan and Larry Crabtree, as the lone male bird, punctuates the fairy-tale proceedings with a moment of elegance and elongated grace."

"The Sleeping Beauty" Music by Tchaikovsky - Scenic Design- Nadine Charlson

"It's validity was evident in Catherine Kingsley's dancers' unforced dignity, - Lenore Pavlakos and Larry Crabtree brought aristocratic refinement to the adagio from the wedding pas de deux of "The Sleeping Beauty."
